Rajon Rondo is going to be a beast this season. He dropped 31 points and dished out 13 assists. If he hadn’t kept them in it in the first half, they wouldn’t have been able to make a run in the second half.

The Knicks are excited about defense? Even though Boston made some runs, particularly in the second half, the Knicks—lead by an unusually exuberant Carmelo Anthony—showed a lot of enthusiasm for defense. It was really nice for Knicks fans to see. Pay attention to the Knicks after a big block the next time you watch them. They’re stoked to be stuffing people rather than a big shot. Although, they’re still pretty excited about those as well. Also, Tyson Chandler had a sequence where he made two blocks on automatic lay-ups for Boston. You can’t put a price tag on that—so I hope he stays healthy (knock on wood).

Brandon Bass is an upgrade over Glen Davis. At least he is after one game this season. Bass ended up with 20 points on 9/13 shooting and he and Rondo kept the game competitive in the first half.

The Knicks play a lot more half-court offense, but with Melo and Amar’e in there, that’s not such a bad thing. Two of the best one-on-one players in the league, and they’re both Knicks! So, so happy right now. But, on the flip side…

Lets try and temper some of our enthusiasm for the Knicks because Paul Pierce was on the bench, and Garnett didn’t take advantage when the Knicks switched Toney Douglas on him in the second half. The Celtics can play much better and they had their best player on the bench. Keep that mind when you’re bragging about them next week. I will try to heed my own advice as well.
